The Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC) and the Energy Working Group (EWG) of the Low-Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS-GP) are co-hosting a webinar on sustainable energy progress in Latin America and the Caribbean. The webinar offers both an overview of recent developments in clean energy policies, programs, and targets across the region and an in-depth case study on Nicaragua’s experience in facilitating private and public investments in climate-compatible energy development. The presentation details the mechanisms that Nicaragua’s investment-promotion agency (ProNicaragua) has employed to attract private investment in order to meet the government’s national energy targets and policy objectives. The webinar will feature the following presentations:

  • Introduction & Moderation  Ana Maria Majano, INCAE Business School/EWG Co-Chair for LAC
  • Regional Overview: Renewable Energy in Latin America and the Caribbean  Alexander Ochs,  Worldwatch Institute/EWG Chair
  • Nicaragua: Promoting Private Investments towards National Sustainable Energy Goals  Javier Chamorro, ProNicaragua
  • Q&A

This webinar is the second in a three-part series on regional experiences in low-emissions energy program and policy design.  Later this year, a session on Africa  will be announced through this list.

About LEDS Global Partnership

The Low-Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) Global Partnership (GP) was founded in 2011 to enhance coordination, information exchange, and cooperation among countries and international programs working to advance low-emissions, climate-resilient growth. The LEDS GP currently brings together LEDS leaders and practitioners from more than 120 countries and international institutions through innovative peer learning and collaboration forums and networks. For the full list of participants and more information on partnership activities, see ledsgp.org.

The LEDS LAC Regional Platform is a regional network comprising individuals and organizations from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors active in designing, promoting, and implementing LEDS in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Platform aims to advance the development of national-level and country-led strategic plans to promote economic growth while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the LAC region.

The Energy Working Group (EWG) is an energy sector network of country governments, multilateral institutions, individuals, and non-governmental organizations involved in activities to support the development and implementation of low-emissions energy strategies. The EWG seeks to facilitate international coordination and collaboration among countries in successfully developing low-emissions, climate-resilient energy strategies through an exchange of information, best practices, and advisory services.
