Measuring the Renewable Future: High‐Level Consultation on IRENA Renewable Energy Indicators
During the ongoing U.N. Conference on Sustainable and Development, Worldwatch's Climate and Energy team will host the invitation-only “Measuring the Renewable Future: High‐level Consultation on IRENA Renewable Energy Indicators” dinner discussion at the Hotel Santa Theresa. Worldwatch’s Evan Musolino, Alexander Ochs and President Emeritus Christopher Flavin will join IRENA Director General Adnan Amin and other leading renewable energy experts in debating how to re-set the stage for harnessing the full potential of renewable energy technologies in the event of future economic development.
The first section of the dinner will address the issue of key real-world, non-technical barriers to renewable energy investment, such as the existence of wrong socio-economic paradigms, subsidies favoring fossil fuel production, the lack of support policies for clean energy sources, unreliable bureaucracies and inefficient administrative hurdles, as well as the lack of available capital. The second will explore the role new indicators can play to measure progress on removing such barriers.
