International Aid NGO Concludes Aceh Fraud Investigation

Oxfam International’s investigation into procurement fraud at its Aceh office revealed discrepancies of more than $20,000 between amounts paid to suppliers for goods and the quantity of goods received.

Most of the money was recovered, and Oxfam said it would take disciplinary action against 22 staff members, but resume working in Aceh.  Nicholas Stockton of Humanitarian Aid Accountability International commented:  “I hope that this isn’t interpreted … as Oxfam being the only one with problems.  They are, in fact, the only ones to come out to deal with the problem.”
