Restoration of Aceh Fisheries Makes Slow Progress

The 2004 tsunami affected 54,516 fishermen, or more than 70 percent of the people involved in the industry. So far, only about 47 percent of the damaged and destroyed infrastructure—ports and landing facilities—has been restored. Silt from the tsunami has restricted fishing in shallow waters and has covered many coral reefs.
