Norway to Provide Human Rights Training for Aceh Police

The Norwegian government and the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights have agreed to cooperate in providing human rights instructions for police officers in Aceh. The success of such training will be crucial for peace in Aceh: the civilian population has considerable distrust vis-à-vis the police, given many rights abuses that were carried out during the conflict.

Aceh Provincial Secretary Husni Bahri asked that civilian state investigators, municipal police officers, and sharia police members be included in the courses.
