Ethiopia Confronts One of the Most Intense Floods on Record

Ethiopia is experiencing some of the heaviest and most intense floods on record. Almost 120,000 people in the north, east, and southwest have been affected in August floods. The disaster has already killed hundreds of people, but because heavy rains continued to lash the country, the number of victims could rise over the next few weeks. The Ethiopian government and military are accelerating the evacuation of people from flood-prone, low-lying areas. The World Food Program and other humanitarian agencies are distributing tons of grain, vegetable oil, and other essentials to survivors.
