UN Emergency Fund Gathers Momentum

Half a year after the United Nations’ Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) was launched to ensure swifter responses to humanitarian crises, nearly $274 million of CERF’s $450 million target reserve has been pledged by donors. CERF ensures that emergency funds become available within 3-4 days, as opposed to up to four months or more under previous arrangements.

So far, more than $170 million have been committed for more than 250 projects in 26 countries. Funds have gone to Afghanistan, Chad, Lebanon, Timor-Leste, Burkina Faso, Cóte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Haiti among others.
