Publications and Marketing Manager

Worldwatch Institute is seeking an energetic, collaborative, sustainability-conscious Publications and Marketing Manager to support and execute Worldwatch publications, marketing, and communications initiatives, including the domestic and foreign publication of Institute research, direct marketing campaigns, online publication announcements and promotions, and weekly e-newsletter development. This position reports to the president of the Institute.

Responsibilities:

The Publications and Marketing Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Participate in strategizing and developing outreach and promotion plans for new publications and research content;
  • Draft/develop online and direct mail promotions;
  • Develop and execute promotion campaigns to build visibility and sales of publications in academic marketplace;
  • Serve as point of contact with international publishing partners and vendors to ensure worldwide distribution of Worldwatch publications;
  • Work with printing partners to ensure quality offset and print-on-demand printing services;
  • Create promotional materials for Worldwatch branding, research projects, and publications;
  • Generate reports on Institute publication and subscription sales.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, with concentration in communications, marketing, or business preferred;
  • Familiarity with traditional marketing channels, including advertising, direct mail and e-mail campaign planning and development, list rentals and exchanges, copywriting, promotion response tracking, budget expense tracking, and vendor management;
  • Previous involvement in strategy development and implementation of an integrated marketing and communications plan strongly desired;
  • Experience in publishing, digital formats, web distribution channels, and/or information industry strongly desired;
  • Marketing and/or sales of electronic products to institutional customers extremely valuable;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus a high level of comfort interacting with staff across all departments of the organization;
  • A highly motivated, self-starter with strict attention to detail;
  • Awareness of and interest in global sustainability topics, ideally with demonstrated experience and education in environmental sciences and/or activism;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;

Location: Washington, D.C. The Worldwatch office is a few minutes' walk from Dupont Circle and its Red Line Metro stop. 

Salary and Benefits: Negotiable depending on skills and experiences; good benefits including fully paid health insurance.
