Ben Block is a staff writer at the Worldwatch Institute, an environmental research organization based in Washington, D.C. His main responsibility is contributing stories to the Institute's Eye on Earth online news service. Before coming to Worldwatch, Ben served as an intern with National Geographic Magazine, The Baltimore Sun, Smithsonian magazine, and The Carroll County Times. He has also been published in Ode magazine.

A graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, Ben received degrees in environmental science and journalism. In college, he edited the student newspaper The Diamondback, and he received a Hearst Journalism Award for his reporting on student life.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Ben enjoys exploring the outdoors of Maryland and beyond. His travels have taken him to the Amazon, Nicaragua, and the Middle East. He speaks basic Spanish.
