Energy Sources

Like the great transitions away from wood and coal to petroleum 100 years ago, today's societies will soon begin the move away from fossil fuels and toward a new energy system that is more suited to the economic, security, and environmental needs of the 21st century. For more than two decades, Worldwatch has worked to chart a pioneering path to a post-petroleum energy economy. Worldwatch research on energy has shown that an energy transition to a solar-hydrogen economy is not only environmentally necessary, but economically logical. Most recently, Worldwatch has begun investigating the potential role of liquid biofuels in this transition.
