Ben Block is a staff writer at the Worldwatch Institute. Ben reports for World Watch magazine and the Institute's Eye on Earth online news service. Before his arrival in February 2008, Ben served as an intern with National Geographic Magazine, Smithsonian magazine, The Baltimore Sun, and The Carroll County Times. His writing has also been published in Ode and Popular Mechanics.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Ben graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park with degrees in environmental science and journalism. In college, he edited the student newspaper The Diamondback, and he received a Hearst Journalism Award for his reporting on student life.

Ben enjoys exploring the outdoors of Maryland and beyond. His travels have taken him to the Amazon, Nicaragua, and the Middle East. He speaks basic Spanish.
